Kyriakos Mitsotakis at a Tony Blair Institute event on artificial intelligence

Present at the workshop and in the discussion on the practical applications of AI in health, climate crisis, civil protection, was Nobel Prize winner Demis Hassabis and his team

Newsroom December 2 10:45

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis participated in a special workshop in London organised by the Tony Blair Institute on artificial intelligence and its application to government policies.

Present at the workshop and in the discussion concerning, among other things, the practical applications of AI in health, climate crisis, and political protection, was Nobel Prize winner Demis Hassabis (Deepmind) and his team.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the national plan for Greece’s transition to AI, which was handed over to him a few days ago by the Advisory Committee on AI, and stressed that the next step is for the government to proceed with its implementation.

The Prime Minister stressed that Greece is at the forefront of the international debate on AI and the philosophical questions surrounding its use, as well as the debate on the regulatory framework at the EU level.

The future of artificial intelligence and possible ways in which it might evolve was also discussed, and several AI applications already being used by the UK government were examined.

The common thread was that governments must embrace AI technology responsibly, without missing the opportunities that the technology can bring to the economy and society.

The Prime Minister stressed the ethical dimension of the use of AI technology.
