A scene of hegemony for ND, PASOK in second place, SYRIZA between KKE and… Zoe

Lower expectations of citizens for 2025

Newsroom December 20 10:20

The return of ND to the 30% range, regaining strength from the recent European elections and recalling the polling performance of its first four years, is reflected in the latest polls, which want PASOK to consolidate as the second pole with a steady upward trend, leaving out of the frame the opposition, which until recently was the Syriza Progressive Alliance. At the same time, citizens’ expectations for 2025, which is rooted in the economic condition and especially in the intense geopolitical volatility.

In particular, in research by Pulse, the distance between the leading Southwestern party and PASOK is 13 points, as the government party has 30% of the vote compared to 17% for PASOK, in the wake of the budget debate in the Parliament.

The next duo is the one between KKE and Hellenic Solution, which, however, seems hard to be surpassed by SYRIZA PS, as Perissos collects 9.5%, followed by 9% for Kyriakos Velopoulos’ party and then Koumoundourou with 8%.

The survey places the Pλεύsi Eleftherias, the Voice of Logic and the Movement for Democracy in the 5% range, while Niki seems to be under pressure and marginally crosses the 3% threshold, while the voting intention shows a 16.3% “grey zone”, as well as a 2% vote for smaller parties.

At the same time, 54% of those who declare their voting intention for SYRIZA say that after the election of a new leadership, things will go better for the party, while in the entire sample, 26% say they are “satisfied” with the return of PASOK to the position of the opposition.

Anxiety about the international situation

Extremely interesting is the fact that very high percentages of citizens’ answers regarding the international situation are gathered, reflecting anxiety about the increasing geopolitical instability, but also about Turkey’s attitude toward the future. In particular, 69% are quite or very interested in the situation in the Middle East, while 75% seem to be closely following developments in Greek-Turkish relations.

Meanwhile, a double-digit lead is still held by the ND in the survey by Metron Analysis, which stands at 11.8 points, as the ruling party reaches 29.2%, with a marked improvement in all qualitative indicators of governance. At the same time, the pessimism of citizens both for their situation and for the course of the country is decreasing significantly, gradually bringing ND back to the polling trajectory of the first four years. At the same time, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis continues to maintain his lead in terms of suitability for the office of Prime Minister, with a six-point rise in his personal approval rating.

However, PASOK President Nikos Androulakis is recorded as the most popular political leader, whose presence raised positive opinions of the opposition to 26%, up from 4% amid the Syriza crisis in October.

More specifically, in the vote estimate, they gather:

New Democracy 29.2%

PASOK 17.4%

KKE 9,1%

ELLINIKI LYSI 8,7%

SYRIZA 7,4%

LEAP OF LIBERTY 7,3%

VOICE OF LOGIC 5,3%

DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT 4,1%

One of the most striking findings of the survey is the high percentage of the Eleftherias party under Zoe Konstantopoulou, which trails the SYRIZA PS by a decimal point, with its breath directly threatening Koumoundourou. Members of the SYRIZA PC appear quite troubled by the above development, as both KKE, which comes in third, and Plyisi Eleftherias follow a militant model of opposition, which is far from the moderation that pervades the programmatic discourse of SYRIZA PC President Socrates Famellos and is closer to the rhetoric of Pavlos Polakis. In this light, they want “Polakis-type opposition”, prominent party officials commented yesterday, seeing also the Movement for Democracy of Stefanos Kasselakis heading to the next Parliament, gathering 4.1%.

On the contrary, both the New Left and Mera25, appear to remain out of the House while Niki’s share of the vote is marginally at 3%.

As for the evaluation of the government ministers, Nikos Dendias, the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, maintains a clear lead with 34 points, followed by the Minister of Education, Kyriakos Pierrakakis with 13 points and the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiades with 6 points.
