Elon Musk: Intervention for the AfD ahead of the German elections

The German government said it took note of Musk's post, without commenting further - Musk reproduced a message from a right-wing German influencer criticizing Friedrich Murch, the conservative candidate for chancellor

Newsroom December 20 04:47

American billionaire Elon Musk, who is preparing to join US President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, today intervened in Germany’s election campaign by calling the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party the country’s savior.

The AfD comes second in the polls and may be able to prevent both a center-right and center-left majority, but Germany’s main, centrist parties have said they do not want AfD support at the national level.

Europe’s leading force is expected to hold elections on February 23, following the collapse of the center-left coalition government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Musk, the richest man in the world, has already expressed support for other right-wing parties in Europe.

The German government said it had taken note of Musk’s post but declined to comment further at the government spokesman’s regular press conference.

Musk was reproducing a message from right-wing German influencer Naomi Zybbt criticizing Friedrich Murch, the conservative candidate for chancellor, who has a comfortable lead in the polls.

Elon Musk: Don’t save for retirement – It won’t matter

Musk had already expressed his support for the AfD last year when he attacked the German government’s handling of illegal immigration.

Last month Musk had called for Italian judges who had questioned the legality of government measures to prevent illegal immigration to be suspended.

This week, Nigel Farage, head of the right-wing British Reform UK party and a friend of Trump, posted a photo of himself and the Reform UK treasurer meeting Musk at Trump’s Florida residence and said he was in talks with Musk about financial support.
