CAA: Passenger traffic increased by 8.1% across 24 airports for the 11-month period of 2024

At Heraklion’s “Nikos Kazantzakis” Airport, the highest passenger traffic among regional airports was recorded in November

Passenger traffic across the 24 airports managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastellorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) showed an 8.1% increase during the January-November 2024 period compared to the same period in 2023.

Specifically, according to the statistical data, the total number of passengers (arrivals and departures, domestic and international) for the 11-month period of 2024 (January–November) reached 11,733,395 passengers, compared to 10,849,363 passengers during the same period in 2023.

November 2024: Heraklion’s “Nikos Kazantzakis” Recorded the Highest Passenger Traffic Among Regional Airports
Heraklion’s state airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” served 225,234 passengers in November, marking a 26.3% increase compared to last year, when 178,376 passengers were served in the same month. Additionally, the most significant percentage increases in passenger traffic among CAA-managed airports for November 2024, compared to 2023, were recorded at Ikaria Airport (+64.5%), Naxos Airport (+33%), and Astypalaia Airport (+29.9%).

9.3% Increase in Passenger Traffic and 7.5% in Aircraft Movements from January to November 2024 Across All Airports
A 9.3% increase in passenger traffic was also recorded for the 11-month period of 2024 across all airports in the country that conduct commercial flights (39 airports: 24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, Athens International Airport). Specifically, passenger traffic for the January-November 2024 period reached 76,249,626 passengers, compared to 69,774,369 passengers for the same period in 2023.

As for the number of aircraft movements (arrivals and departures, domestic and international) for the 11-month period of 2024 across all 39 airports in the country, primarily monitored by the CAA’s air traffic control, an increase of 7.5% was observed compared to the same period in 2023. Specifically, a total of 577,118 flights were conducted, compared to 536,679 flights in 2023.

It is worth noting that airports have already set a new annual passenger traffic record, as the recent 10-month 2024 statistics, along with the updated 11-month data for 2024, have surpassed the entire 12-month figures for 2023.
