Juncker clarifies his statements

When asked by the European Parliamentary Left, and journalists

Newsroom December 16 08:01

“I do not know how to speak Greek and I do not know what Greek newspapers wrote. I cannot understand why the Greek Left defends the extreme Right. I hate the extreme Right.”, stated EC President Jean-Claude Juncker, closing the debate on the European Commission for 2015, commenting on his statements of a “known person in power in Greece”, which was criticized by the Left within the European Parliament.

It should be reminded to readers that the EC president spoke on political developments in Greece last week, stating that “Greeks know all too well what a wrong electoral result would mean”.

The EC president directly spoke on the possibility of early elections in Greece, in case there is no President elected on the 29th of December.

“I will not hide my opinion since there is a possibility that the country will be headed by extreme groups”, Mr. Juncker underlined. When asked whether he means Alexis Tsipras and SYRIZA, the EC president replied in diplomatic acquiescent silence.

When asked why SYRIZA and Tsipras can be described as “extreme forces”, he replied: “I would like for Greece to be government by people with their eyes and heart turned towards the weak, and who can also understand the needs of European processes”.

“Every party that can be elected has to comply with all these prerequisites, and without commenting on the chances of one or the other party, I would like familiar faces in leadership”, Mr. Juncker stated, speaking on former Greek EU commissioner, Stavros Dimas, who is the candidate as a new President of the Republic proposed by the ruling coalition.
