Trump’s new attack on Democrats over the Los Angeles fires – Biden’s response

Elon Musk spread theories that question climate change, linking the scope of the disaster to diversity policies in Los Angeles firefighter hiring

Newsroom January 10 07:51

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, referring to the still-uncontrollable fires raging in Los Angeles, again viciously attacked the Democratic governor of California Gavin Newsome, who considered his party’s hopeful, and outgoing President Joe Biden.

“Gavin Newscom should resign. He’s to blame for everything,” the Republican opined, adding three exclamation points, via Truth Social, embellishing the governor’s last name with the addition of the word “scum” (“scum”, or “filth”).

In another message the day before, he had already denounced the “incompetence” and “mismanagement of the Biden/Newskam duo.”

The president-elect did not hesitate to claim that Gavin Newsome was reducing access to water and demanded that he “let the water flow to his brutal state, which is starving and on fire” instead of “sending it to the Pacific Ocean.”

He also took the opportunity to denounce the energy transition investments, which he called “a waste of money” by talking about the “New Green Scam”, he renamed the “Green New Deal”.

Outgoing President Biden attempted to respond yesterday during a meeting at the White House.

“There are concerns about water shortages,” he said, before explaining that in many cases, power distribution companies have shut down parts of the grid to prevent new fire outbreaks, and those power outages make it difficult for water pumps to operate.

This situation is prompting “ill-informed people to make allegations or accusations,” he continued – a direct reference to Trump – adding: “In the vast majority of cases, when the amount of water goes down, it’s because the company providing the electricity has been unable to maintain the power supply.”

Furthermore, Biden stressed that “climate change is a reality.”

Through X, Trump’s great ally Elon Musk has for his part floated various theories questioning the reality of climate change, linking, for example, without evidence, the scope of the disaster in Los Angeles to diversity policies in the hiring of firefighters in Los Angeles, or the sending of $500 million in aid to Ukraine – favorite themes of the mogul’s base.

Donald Trump has previously threatened that if he returned to the White House, he would deprive California Governor Newsom of any federal aid for wildfires.

Gavin Newsom, 57, is seen as promising in the Democratic Party – and is among the prime targets of Donald Trump’s verbal bluster, attacking him at every opportunity for his progressive policies.

The president-elect, who will be sworn in on January 20, had also argued before the November 5 presidential election that if the vote count was done in a “fair” way, he would win California, a Democratic stronghold.
