Travel and Leisure magazine has included Folegandros, a picturesque island in the Cyclades, in its list of the top 24 destinations that boast the most beautiful villages in the world.

According to the prestigious travel magazine, the first and most important requirement of a beautiful village is a scenic location and therefore the sun-splashed Greek isles are full of beautiful little gems.

“Reaching some of these European beauties requires extra effort, yet the rewards are dazzling,” says the article making specific reference to the architecture of Folegandros, that features “streets paved in slate, whitewashed buildings decorated with colorful flowers and the occasional Greek Orthodox church with a bright blue dome” without the crowds of Santorini.
