A memorandum of cooperation was signed last week by the Greek ministry of tourism and the municipality of Marathonas, an historic town in Greece, the site of the famous battle of Marathon in 490 BC. The purpose of this alliance is to promote the region’s rich cultural heritage and attract more tourists.

During the signing ceremony that took place in Marathonas, Ilias Psinakis, the town’s mayor, Ilias Psinakis underlined that the region’s global recognition can help Marathonas attract film productions.

Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said that initiatives for boosting tourists arrivals in the region will be implemented, adding that Athens can benefit from promoting the cultural heritage of Marathon, including the famous Battle and the authentic Marathon race.
