Athens Stock Exchange: A breath away from the 2011 high for the General Index

AKTOR (+9%), METLEN (+2,79%) and PPC (+1,52%) recorded the biggest rise - INTRALOT (-1,50%), Eurobank (-1,16%) and Attica Bank (-0,77%) recorded the biggest fall

Newsroom January 20 05:53

The Athens Stock Exchange continued to move with stabilizing trends as it broke through 1,520 points on Friday to new highs, almost 14-year highs, driven by banks, after the banking index closed at levels not seen since November 2015.

Specifically, in Monday’s (Jan 20) session, the General Index gained 6.2 points or +0.41% to close at 1,530.87 points, hovering between 1,523.74 (low of the day) and 1,530.91 points (high of the day).

The next milestone for the GC is 1,531.04 points, which was recorded on April 13, 2011.

With its main target for the next period to reach 1,550 – 1,600 points, the Greek market is currently attempting to assimilate and accumulate.

The banking index recorded a marginal rise of 0.01% to 1,416.10 points.

The FTSE 25 (high cap) gained +0.36% to 3,733.50 points, while the Mid Cap (mid cap) fell -0.36% to 2,403.25 points.

Among the high-cap stocks, AKTOR (+9%), METLEN (+2.79%) and PPC (+1.52%) recorded the biggest increase.

On the contrary, the biggest decrease was recorded by the shares of INTRALOT (-1.50%), Eurobank (-1.16%), and Attica Bank (-0.77%).

46 shares moved up, 64 down and 12 remained stable.

The focus today is on the launch of Alter Ego’s Initial Public Offering and the dividend cut-off of Helleniq Energy.

Alter Ego is proceeding with the issue of 14,249,000 new ordinary registered shares with a nominal value of EUR 1 each. The maximum offering price has been set at EUR 4 per share, while the share capital increase is expected to raise EUR 50.8 million after issuance costs. Trading of the shares on the regulated market of the Athens Exchange is expected to commence on 27 January 2025.

As for Helleniq Energy, the payment of the money will follow a week later, on January 27.

Earlier, it was announced that Premia Properties has acquired SEMELI OINOPOITIKI for a price of EUR 10.6 million, following the signing of an agreement with LYKTOS. Ideal also informed investors that negotiations for the acquisition of Barba Stathis are at an advanced stage.

The focus today is undoubtedly on Trump’s inauguration at 7 pm (local time), as investors are waiting to see how things will develop in the US with the Republican’s second term, what will happen with trade tariffs, what will be the course of inflation, and what central banks will do in terms of interest rates.

All of the above is expected to affect investor sentiment, as international uncertainty creates a profit-taking mood on the one hand and thoughts of a bullish breakout on the other.
