Weather: With unseasonably high temperatures the next days – Where it will rain

With few phenomena, the next few days will pass with above-normal temperatures across the country, especially in the central and southern regions, EMF director Thodoros Kolydas said in his forecast.

Local rain will mainly occur in western Greece, central-western Macedonia and the eastern and southern island regions of the country. On Thursday, relative good weather is expected, although on Friday, a few short showers are expected, Kolydas added.

For his part, the meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias, informs that the next period will be mild weather conditions, however, the cold will persist both at night and early in the morning.

“We will welcome February with alcyonide days… With mild weather conditions both on land and at sea (with minor exceptions) the last days of January will roll by for most regions.

In fact, the sunny intervals will be long from Thursday 23/1 onwards (we expect a few phenomena in western Greece and the eastern and southern islands).

Temperatures will be 4-5 degrees above normal for the season, reaching even 17-18 degrees in central and southern Greece. However, at night and early in the morning the frost will persist.

The prevailing winds will be north winds that will not exceed 5 Beaufort except for 1-2 days that will intensify a little and change direction (Friday, Sunday),” the meteorologist wrote in detail.

Frost occurred in the morning hours of Tuesday 21/01 in the northern continental parts, with the lowest minimum temperature recorded in the New Caucasus of Florina at -4.8 °C.

Today’s weather

A few clouds are forecast, with showers in Epirus, West Central Greece and possibly in the remaining parts of Central Greece and Evia, while local thunderstorms will occur in Ionian, West and South Peloponnese, Cyclades, Crete, East Aegean islands and mainly in the Dodecanese. The phenomena will quickly stop from the west and will gradually be limited to the East and South Aegean. In the northern and central mainland, in the evening and morning hours, visibility will be limited in places, while frost will occur mainly in the north.

The temperature will range from -1 to 12 degrees in Northern Greece (in Western Macedonia from -3 to 11 degrees), 4 to 16 degrees in Central and Southern Greece, 8 to 16 degrees in Western Greece (in Epirus from 3 to 15 degrees), 10 to 15 degrees in the Cyclades and from 12 to 18 degrees in Crete, 7 to 15 degrees in the East Aegean islands and from 13 to 16 degrees in the Dodecanese.

Winds will blow in the Aegean from variable directions, light and in the South Aegean from westerly directions almost moderate 4 Beaufort, while in the Ionian from variable directions light and in the Corinthian Gulf from westerly directions moderate 4-5 Beaufort.

We expect a few clouds, partly increased, with the possibility of local rain mainly in the northern parts of Attica on Wednesday. Visibility in the evening hours may be limited in some places. The temperature will range from 8 to 16 degrees Celsius, but in the north it will be 2-3 degrees lower. Winds will blow from the west, light.

We expect sunshine with a few clouds and limited visibility in some places in the evening hours on Wednesday in Thessaloniki. The temperature will range from 5 to 12 degrees Celsius. The winds in Thermaikos will blow from variable directions, light.

The weather on Thursday 23-01-2025

A few clouds, partly increasing mainly in the eastern and southern islands in the morning, when local rain will occur. Visibility in the morning and evening hours will be limited in some places and in the mainland there will be fog.

The winds in the north will be initially variable 3 to 4 and gradually from southern directions, in the northern Ionian Sea locally 5 Beaufort. In the south the wind will blow from westerly directions 3 to 5 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach in the north 11 to 13 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the mainland and the Ionian Sea 14 to 16 degrees and locally in the west and south 17 to 18 degrees Celsius and in the rest of the island country 16 to 18 and locally in Crete 19 degrees Celsius. In the morning and evening hours there will be frost in the north.

The weather on Friday 24-01-2025

Across the country a few clouds in places and occasionally increasing. Local showers will occur in the northwest, the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese where isolated thunderstorms are likely. Visibility on the mainland in the morning and evening hours will be limited in places and fog will occur.

Winds will blow from southerly directions from 3 to 5 and in the morning in the Ionian Sea up to 6 Beaufort. From late in the evening in the northwest, northerly winds of 3 to 5 Beaufort will prevail.

The temperature will rise slightly to its maximum values mainly in the central and southern regions. In the morning and evening hours there will be frost in the northwest.

The weather on Saturday 25-01-2025

In the islands of the eastern Aegean Sea, the eastern Cyclades, the Dodecanese and from late evening in eastern Crete increased clouds with local rain and occasional thunderstorms are forecast. In the rest of the country generally clear weather. Visibility on the mainland in the morning and evening hours will be limited in some places and there will be some fog.

The winds will blow from the north from 3 to 5 Beaufort and in the Aegean Sea locally 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise further, mainly in the west and will be slightly above normal for the season.

In the rest of the country generally clear weather with thin clouds which will gradually become thicker from the midday hours and from the west. The visibility in the continental areas in the morning hours will be limited in some places.

Winds will blow from the north 3 to 5 and in the Aegean Sea 6, locally in the south 7 Beaufort with gradual weakening. From the afternoon and from the west they will turn to south winds 3 to 5 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly.
