Russian figure skating coaches and former world champions Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were on board the plane that crashed into the Potomac River after a mid-air collision with a military helicopter near Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport.

When asked about the presence of these athletes on the plane, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that “this tragic information has been confirmed.” He added, “Other fellow citizens of ours were also on board the plane.”

When asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to contact U.S. President Donald Trump by phone to offer his condolences, Peskov stated that, “for the time being, there are no plans for high-level communications.”
