Time-of-use electricity tariff: Effective from today – Which hours will be cheaper

The transition to the new schedule is automatic, requiring no action from consumers – The purpose of the time-of-use tariff with reduced pricing is to provide consumers with access to electricity during cheaper hours, divided into midday and nighttime zones

Newsroom February 1 10:55

As of today, the new time-of-use electricity tariff with lower charges comes into effect, shifting lower rates from the nighttime zone to the daytime. This change was initiated by ministerial decision, signed in recent days by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Theodoros Skylakakis.

Time-of-Use Tariff Schedule

The purpose of the reduced-pricing time-of-use tariff is to provide consumers access to electricity at lower costs. It consists of a midday and a nighttime zone, running from Monday to Sunday, structured as follows:

Winter Schedule (November to March):

  • Midday Zone: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
  • Nighttime Zone: 2:00 AM – 5:00 AM

Summer Schedule (April to October):

  • Midday Zone: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Nighttime Zone: 2:00 AM – 4:00 AM

Consumers can check if they have been switched to the new time-of-use reduced pricing through the “Service Requests” application by selecting the category “Time-of-Use Reduced Pricing Check” and entering their service number. According to the provided instructions, a confirmation message will appear. Additionally, they can inquire via a toll-free telephone line (800 400 4000) by providing their service number.

As previously announced by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Theodoros Skylakakis, the new time-of-use reduced pricing system initially applies to consumers who already have an appropriate meter and an active nighttime tariff. This means a meter capable of recording usage in two zones or a new smart meter, but it does not apply to newly installed meters.

Existing electricity supply contracts with time-of-use tariffs will be adjusted to incorporate the new hours, while consumers who do not wish to switch to the new system will have the option to terminate their current contract at no cost.

Implementation

The Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (ΔΕΔΔΗΕ) will be responsible for implementing the new schedule, which will take effect automatically, requiring no action from consumers.

Approximately 150,000 consumers will be temporarily excluded from the change due to their existing meters and will receive relevant instructions. To join the new system, they will need to submit a request to ΔΕΔΔΗΕ, at no cost to them.
