Rooney Mara & Kate Mara: The sisters to collaborate on the big screen for the first Time

Rooney Mara and Kate Mara are set to star together for the first time in Werner Herzog’s upcoming film, "Bucking Fastard"

Newsroom February 6 05:00

Herzog will write and direct the film, with Ariel Leon Isacovitch and Agnes Chu serving as producers, alongside Andrea Bucko and Emanuele Moretti of Cobalt Sky Motion Picture Group.

The movie is based on the true story of Freda and Greta Chaplin and follows the lives of Joan and Jean, inseparable twin sisters living on the fringes of society. Herzog first expressed his desire to bring their story to the big screen in his memoir, “Every Man for Himself and God Against All,” published last October.

“I want to make a feature film about the twin sisters, Freda and Greta Chaplin,” Herzog wrote. “Their story is unique. They are the only identical twins we know who speak in perfect unison.”

A Legendary Filmmaker and Two Acclaimed Actresses

Since 1968, Herzog has directed 20 narrative films and 34 documentaries, earning a reputation as one of cinema’s greatest visionaries. Some of his most iconic works include “Aguirre, The Wrath of God,” “Fitzcarraldo,” “Lessons of Darkness,” and “Grizzly Man.”

Rooney Mara, a two-time Academy Award nominee, recently starred in Sarah Polley’s Oscar-nominated drama “Women Talking.” Kate Mara, known for her work in FX’s “Class of ’09,” is also set to lead the upcoming sci-fi thriller “The Astronaut.”
