Newsroom February 7 04:03

The trial involving former ANEL president Panos Kamenos, with former minister Nikos Kotzias testifying as a prosecution witness, took a dramatic turn at the Evelpidon court complex. A heated verbal exchange erupted between Kotzias and defense witness, former Ambassador Karagiannis.

According to Mr. Karagiannis, he was threatened by Mr. Kotzias, prompting the court to summon the judicial police. In response, Mr. Kamenos’ lawyers, Ioannis Apatsidis and Elena Tzouli-Kamenos, demanded Kotzias’ immediate arrest for insubordination.

The situation escalated when the commander of the Kypseli police station arrived at the scene, only to find that Mr. Karagiannis—who had initially claimed to have been threatened—was unwilling to press charges. Meanwhile, Kamenos’ legal team persisted in their demand for Kotzias’ arrest, despite his role as a prosecution witness against their client.

As of now, the police commander awaits instructions from the head of the prosecutor’s office on whether to proceed with Kotzias’ arrest.
