The Ragoutsaria Carnival in Kastoria takes place from January 1 and culminates from January 6-8. The tradition dates back to antiquity and takes palce at exactly the same time when the Dionysia celebrations were held in Ancient Greece.
The people taking part in Ragoutsaria knock at the doors to ask for wine, food and money to consume during the last ight of the carnival. They are accompanied by local folk artists with brass instruments playing Balkan music.
On the last day of events, there’s a big parade known as “bouloukia” that starts at Omonia Square and ends in Doltso Street where a big feast takes place.
