Phrixos Drakondidis February 12 06:00

The static audit of schools of all levels in Santorini has been completed, with the results being reassuring. According to the Municipality of Thera, a team of eight engineers inspected all school buildings in the area, with no structural adequacy problems found.

“The school buildings are in excellent condition”

The Director of Natural Disaster Management of Building Infrastructure (NDM), Theodoros Iliopoulos, said that the school buildings in Santorini are in excellent condition and that no cracking or even hairline cracks were found, which are common in cases where such phenomena are in progress.

“No problems were found. The schools, if the Civil Protection decides to operate, can continue to operate without any issue,” said Mr. Iliopoulos.

Assurances on the safety of schools

The news comes as a reassurance to parents, teachers, and students, especially after heightened concerns expressed in earthquake-prone areas such as Santorini.

The announcement from the Municipality of Thira noted that Civil Protection will make the final decision on the operation of the schools, but based on the current data, no problem endangers the structural safety of the schools.
