X is down, thousands report problems

The 8th Elementary School of Nea Philadelphia was visited by Kyriakos Mitsotakis this morning. “The time has come to make a major intervention in the building stock of our schools,” the prime minister said, among other things. This particular school is eligible for the “Marietta Giannakou” program, which concerns the renovation of school facilities.

The statement of Mr Mitsotakis: “I am visiting today the 8th Primary School of Nea Philadelphia. An excellent school with excellent teachers, with significant technological infrastructure, with interactive boards in the 5th and 6th grade, with robotics laboratories. But a school that was built in 1980 and needs significant renovation interventions in terms of its building infrastructure and this is exactly the core of the “Marietta Giannakou” program, which I had the opportunity to announce six months ago. We are now absolutely ready and very soon the announcements will be made for those schools in which there will be significant interventions to improve the infrastructure from the outdoor spaces to the toilets, interventions that have to do with the insulation of schools, always in cooperation with the Local Government, which is also responsible for the maintenance of schools.

They are responsible for the maintenance of the schools, which is also responsible for the maintenance of the schools.
We recognize, however, that it does not have the financial capacity to be able to make such interventions. That is why we have launched a program of EUR 350 million as a first step. I would like to remind you that this 350 million euros includes the 100 million euros donated by the Union of Greek Banks. The program will start running immediately and our aim is to hand over the first schools next September. And my intention is to be here again for the consecration so that we can see the aftermath[…] The time has now come to make a major intervention in our school building stock, starting with the older schools, and to continue to implement this program, which bears the name of an iconic politician who is so identified with the reform of public education.“
