Inflation: 3.1% in Greece in January – 2.5% in the euro area

What the final Eurostat data showed

The annual inflation rate in Greece “inched up” to 3.1% last January, compared to 2.9% in December. However, on a monthly basis, it declined by 0.7%, according to the final data from Eurostat.

As reported by the European statistical authority, inflation in the Eurozone stood at 2.5% in January 2025, up from 2.4% in December 2024. A year earlier, the rate was 2.8%. The EU‘s annual inflation rate reached 2.8% in January, up from 2.7% in December. A year earlier, the rate stood at 3.1%.

The lowest annual rates were recorded in Denmark (1.4%), Ireland, Italy, and Finland (all at 1.7%). In contrast, the highest annual rates were observed in Hungary (5.7%), Romania (5.3%), and Croatia (5%). Compared to December 2024, annual inflation decreased in eight member states, remained stable in four, and increased in fifteen.

In January 2025, services contributed the most to the annual inflation rate in the Eurozone (+1.77 percentage points, p.p.), followed by food, alcohol, and tobacco (+0.45 p.p.), energy (+0.18 p.p.), and non-energy industrial goods (+0.12 p.p.).
