Government reshuffle on Friday morning – Pierrakakis to head Finance Ministry

The long-awaited government reshuffle is just hours away, with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis set to announce his decisions by early Friday afternoon

Newsroom March 13 10:14

Key Changes in the Cabinet

  • Kostis Hatzidakis will take on the role of Deputy Prime Minister, overseeing ministries related to economic affairs and playing a critical role within the Maximos Mansion. He will work closely with Minister of State Akis Skertsos, responsible for monitoring government operations.
  • Kyriakos Pierrakakis will move to the Finance Ministry, a position he was widely expected to take after his Tuesday meeting with the Prime Minister. Pierrakakis is regarded as a highly successful minister, consistently ranking high in popularity. His appointment is seen as a positive move for the country’s economic policy. Nikos Papathanasis will likely remain as his deputy, continuing his work on the Recovery Fund.
  • The reshuffle may also trigger further ministerial moves, such as Sophia Zacharaki potentially heading the Education Ministry and Eirini Agapidaki taking charge of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs.

Other Notable Ministerial Assignments

  • Makis Voridis will leave his post as Minister of State. His next position remains uncertain, with speculation linking him to the Environment & Energy Ministry, the Migration Ministry, or even the Infrastructure Ministry.
  • Stavros Papastavrou is being considered for either the Environment & Energy Ministry or the Migration Ministry.
  • Kostas Kyranakis is set to become Deputy Minister of Transport, while Thanos Plevris is unlikely to be named Minister of Infrastructure, despite previous speculation.
  • Vasilis Kikilias will move to the Ministry of Shipping, while Kostas Skrekas is a candidate for the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministry.
  • Notis Mitarakis has been linked to a potential return to the Migration Ministry.
  • Adonis Georgiadis will remain at the Health Ministry, possibly with Marios Themistocleous as his deputy.
