Hints but also… wishes from Plevris for Tsafos after his explanation on the occupied territories

The MP hopes that the new Deputy Minister of Energy’s explanations regarding his past reference to the occupied territories are sincere – Nicosia states there is no issue with the deputy minister

Newsroom March 17 04:24

MP Thanos Plevris expressed his hope that the new Deputy Minister of Energy’s explanations regarding his past remarks on the occupied territories are sincere, in a cryptic post on X. In his comment, Plevris subtly indicates that he is not entirely convinced by Nikos Tsafos’s statements, noting that he accepts them in good faith but also questions them by adding that he hopes they are truthful.

Plevris states that Tsafos’s explanations were deemed sufficient by the government, yet he himself, as a person of goodwill, wishes they are indeed sincere. However, he underscores that referring to the occupied territories as the so-called “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” is an insult to Greece, Hellenism, the fallen, and the missing.

Specifically, Plevris wrote:

“Referring to the occupied territories as the so-called ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ is an insult to our homeland, to Hellenism, to our fallen, and to our missing, and it wounds us. The explanations given were deemed sufficient, and in good faith, I hope they are also sincere.”

Nicosia: “There is No Issue with the Deputy Minister”

“There is absolutely no issue with Greek Deputy Minister of Energy Nikos Tsafos, with whom we have closely collaborated, including on the GSI cable,” a high-ranking Cypriot government source told ERTNEWS a short while ago.

Nicosia appears particularly irritated by what the same source described as “the timing chosen for this issue to be raised,” emphasizing that “it in no way serves the paramount national objective of Cyprus and Greece, for which both countries are currently in Geneva.”

The same source also stated that the Greek Prime Minister is in constant communication with the President of Cyprus and that they had a telephone conversation just moments ago as part of their ongoing coordination efforts.
