Olympiacos advances to the Women’s Water Polo Champions League Final Four with epic 7-6 comeback against Vouliagmeni

The Piraeus team was trailing 5-2 but made a stunning comeback and will compete for the trophy on May 2-3

Newsroom March 30 12:00

Olympiacos has once again secured a spot in the Women’s Water Polo Champions League Final Four.

Dimitris Kravaritis’ team triumphed 7-6 over Vouliagmeni at the “Kypros” pool of the Hellenic Army Academy in Vari, emerging victorious in the all-Greek quarterfinal clash. They had already won the first leg 11-10 last week in Piraeus.

The “Red-Whites” will fight for the European championship trophy on May 2-3, facing defending champions Sabadell in the semifinals.

A Thrilling Comeback

As in their previous encounters, Vouliagmeni started stronger, leading 4-1 after the first quarter before struggling against Olympiacos’ tight zone defense.

The “Red-Whites,” however, were initially nervous in attack, making rushed decisions, while Vouliagmeni’s Marina Kotsioni was in excellent form. As a result, NOB maintained a three-goal lead at halftime (5-2). However, a sudden burst from the visitors allowed them to equalize in just two minutes, thanks to goals from Vaso Plevritou (equal play), Tricha (power play), and Santa (counterattack).

Mulhausen briefly restored Vouliagmeni’s lead, but Andrews responded, and the same player gave Olympiacos their first lead (7-6) with about four minutes remaining. NOB was unable to react, struggling offensively, and Olympiacos secured their place in the final stage once again.
