Weather: wintery today – Where it will rain, when the temperature is expected to rise

Significant rainfall yesterday in Crete and the Dodecanese - EMY forecast until Sunday

The weather will be winter-like today in many parts of Greece as temperatures will remain low for the season with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in some areas, according to the EMY forecast.

Specifically, a few clouds are expected in the north and the eastern Aegean Sea. In the rest of the region, clouds will be partly cloudy with local showers with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon in the Peloponnese and Crete. A little snow will fall in the mountains of Central Greece, the Peloponnese and Crete.

According to OPEN’s meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis, “from Thursday onwards, spring returns with forecasts predicting that the Holy Week will be marked by high temperatures and mild weather conditions, with this trend continuing until Easter.”

Significant rainfall yesterday in Crete and the Dodecanese

Significant rainfall was recorded on Tuesday 08/04 by the network of automatic meteorological stations of meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens in Crete and the Dodecanese. As shown in the table showing the 8 stations of the network that recorded the highest rainfall until 18:00, 49 mm of rain were recorded in Argyroupoli, Rethymnon, followed by Roussispiti, Rethymnon (44 mm) and Sisi, Lassithi (37 mm).

Today’s weather

Initially, clouds are expected mainly in the northeast, central and southern mainland and in Crete, which will gradually decrease in the southern Peloponnese and Crete. However, local clouds are expected throughout the day in the rest of the country and in the aforementioned areas from midday onwards. As for the phenomena, temporary, localized rainfall is expected in areas of the central and southern mainland, the southern Ionian Sea, the Cyclades and Crete. Occasional, local snowfall will occur in mountainous areas of the central and southern mainland until the morning.

The temperature in Western Macedonia will range from -4 to 11 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 0 to 15, in Thessaly from 2 to 16, in Epirus from 0 to 16, in Sterea and Peloponnese from 3 to 16, in the Ionian islands from 5 to 15, in the North and East Aegean islands from 4 to 13, in the Cyclades from 7 to 14, in the Dodecanese from 11 to 15 and in Crete from 7 to 16 degrees Celsius.

Winds in the Aegean will blow from the north from 3 to 5 Beaufort and in the Dodecanese occasionally up to 6 Beaufort. From the afternoon in the North Aegean the winds will shift to southwestern 2 to 4 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea the winds will initially blow from eastern directions 2 to 4 Beaufort but from noon they will shift to northwestern 3 to 5 Beaufort.

In Attica, clouds are expected with the possibility of occasional, light showers in places until noon. Winds will blow from the north 2 to 4 Beaufort but after the afternoon they will become variable up to 3 Beaufort. The temperature in the center of Athens will range from 8 to 15 degrees Celsius.

In the prefecture of Thessaloniki sunshine is expected with only local clouds in the afternoon and afternoon. Winds will blow from northwestern directions from 2 to 4 Beaufort but after the afternoon they will become variable up to 3 Beaufort. The temperature in the center of Thessaloniki will range from 4 to 16 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Thursday (10/04)

A few clouds, locally increasing from noon with the possibility of a few occasional showers mainly on the mainland. Light snowfall in the northern mountains.

Winds will blow west northwest 4 to 6 and in the southeast locally 7 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise to its maximum values, but in the early morning frost will occur in places in the interior of the mainland.

The weather on Friday (11/04)

In Thrace, the eastern Aegean, the Cyclades, Crete and the Dodecanese, clouds with local rain and a quick improvement. In the rest of the country a few clouds, partly cloudy, mainly in the midday and afternoon hours. A little snow will fall in the northern mountains.

Winds will blow north northwest 4 to 6 and in the Aegean Sea partly in the morning 7 Beaufort. From the afternoon in the northern Aegean they will turn to southwestern 3 to 5 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly in the west. In the early morning frost will occur in places on the northern continents.

The weather on Saturday (12/04)

A few clouds, partly cloudy, mainly in the midday and afternoon hours, when local rain or rain will occur in the mainland and Crete.

Winds will blow from the north 3 to 5 and in the sea locally 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise throughout the country and will reach 20 degrees Celsius in places in the Ionian Sea and the southern mainland.

In the eastern mainland, Crete and in the noon and afternoon hours in the rest of the continent, partly cloudy with local rain or rain. In the rest of the country a few clouds.

The temperature will not change significantly.
