Chrysochoidis’ message for Easter: Let us travel with caution and safety

“The Hellenic Police has intensified its actions and will continue to do so until the Easter period concludes,” emphasizes the Minister for Citizen Protection

Newsroom April 18 03:28

Minister for Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis shared his message for the Easter holidays via a social media post:

“There are many messages these days, but I believe the most important one is love and respect for our lives and the lives of others,” he noted, adding:
“Let us travel, then, but with caution and safety, so that we don’t mourn lives lost in traffic accidents.”

He added that:

“The Hellenic Police has stepped up its operations throughout Holy Week and will continue to do so until the Easter season concludes.”

Full Statement:

Good morning,

“Holy Easter is one of the most sacred moments in Christianity, intertwined with Spring and our traditions. Days of reflection, rest, and reunion, as most Greeks travel to meet relatives, friends, and memories.

The Hellenic Police has intensified its efforts throughout Holy Week and will continue to do so during the entire Easter period.

There are many meaningful messages these days, but I believe the core message is love and respect for our lives and for the lives of those around us.

Let’s travel, then, but with caution and safety, so we don’t mourn lives lost in traffic accidents. From last Friday, when people began traveling, until Holy Wednesday, we had 5 fatal road accidents—a 44% decrease compared to 9 during the same period in 2024. Still, we must not become complacent. Traffic police have increased their presence both on the national road network and in cities. Let’s all do our part to avoid more deadly accidents, because every life is precious.

Let’s honor and celebrate with the customs and traditions of each region, but without endangering ourselves or others with dangerous use of firecrackers and homemade fireworks that have killed and injured people in the past. For this reason, the Hellenic Police has carried out 16,505 checks across the country in the last twenty days, confiscated 15,667 firecrackers and 47,981 related items, and made 57 arrests.

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter and a Blessed Resurrection!”
