The Chinese government today condemned countries that pursue a policy of “appeasement” toward the United States in trade negotiations and regarding the additional U.S. tariffs, stressing that it “strongly opposes” any agreement that harms its interests.

“Appeasement will not bring peace, and compromise will not earn respect,” warned a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce in a press release, reiterating Beijing’s opposition to any agreement between other countries and Washington that comes at the expense of the Chinese economy.
