SDE: 56 kilos of cocaine found in a shipment of shrimps from Ecuador

The value of the seized cocaine is estimated at 1.600.000 euros while with the appropriate admixtures, to increase the quantity to be trafficked, the expected benefit would exceed 3 times the estimated value of the cocaine

A joint operational action to prevent the importation and further trafficking of drugs in the Greek Territory, were undertaken by the Narcotics and Weapons Department of the Operational Directorate of the S.D.O.E of Attica with the Anti-Smuggling Department of the 3rd Piraeus Import Customs Office, during which mixed teams of officers from the two services carried out a check on a number of containers destined for importation.

During the inspection, among other things, a container originating from a South American country (Ecuador) with final destination at the port of Piraeus and a declared cargo of shrimps was detected.

The container in question was forwarded for X-ray examination (X-Ray), which showed evidence of suspicious organic substance in its external cooling mechanism, and in the subsequent universal physical inspection, a total of fifty packages of cocaine with a total gross weight of 55 kilograms and 840 grams were found and recovered.

The value of the seized cocaine is estimated at 1,600,000 euros, while with the appropriate admixtures, to increase the quantity to be trafficked, the expected benefit would exceed 3 times the estimated value.

The preliminary investigation has been undertaken by the Narcotics Suppression Department of the Operational Directorate of the S.D.O.E. of Attica, while the investigation continues with the assistance and cooperation of the Sub-Directorate of Narcotics Suppression of the D.A.O.E from the Greek Police and the Directorate of Narcotics and Smuggling from the Coast Guard – Greek Coast Guard to identify the perpetrators and possible correlation with previous seizures of significant quantities of cocaine in the port of Piraeus.
