Mitsotakis’ message on social media: The government pays one month’s rent for you annually – We’re returning surplus from growth

"As the economy strengthens, so must citizens’ incomes,” says the Prime Minister

Newsroom April 27 07:00

Recently, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that tenants will receive a full month’s rent back every November starting this year, following the publication of fiscal performance data for Greece by ELSTAT and Eurostat.

In a message posted today on social media, Prime Minister Mitsotakis stated: “If you pay rent, you want to see this video! For the first time, we decided to implement something simple yet very significant. The State pays one month’s rent for you each year. We’re not distributing allowances; we’re returning the benefits of economic growth through permanent measures. We’re returning the surplus from growth and from tackling tax evasion, where it belongs—namely, to you. This new measure will provide an annual return of one month’s rent to over 900,000 tenants. It will be paid every November and will cover primary residences and student housing, with a maximum amount of €900 and €800, respectively. And if you have two children studying, you will receive it for both.

This measure adds to the other housing policies we have already implemented. As the economy strengthens, so must citizens’ incomes. As the country moves forward, citizens must feel it, especially the youth. This is what we are doing, and this is what we will continue to do through actions. Because I know how hard it is for those who are renting, especially our young people.”
