Panic on public transport in Portugal: The tram is at a standstill, passengers walk between the rails – Watch video

According to E-REDES, the blackout was caused by "a problem in the European electricity network, which affected the national network"

Newsroom April 28 04:47

Panic has broken out among passengers on public transport in Portugal, following the widespread blackout that has affected several countries in Europe.

Specifically, in Portugal, there are reports that areas across the country are without power, and according to power companyE-REDES, the blackout was caused by “a problem in the European power grid, which affected the national grid.”

Videos showing passengers exiting the metro are making the rounds on the internet. In other videos, people can be seen getting off Lisbon’s halted tram and walking on foot along rough roads between the tracks.

There are also problems with traffic on Lisbon’s streets, where traffic lights create an explosive scene, especially in busy areas.

On the main roads and avenues of the Portuguese capital, the situation is dangerous for accidents. Most at risk are pedestrians, who practically beg drivers to allow them to cross the road.
