Trish Christakis: The Greek-American journalist who went viral at the Miami Heat’s last game – fans called her “Greek Freak 2.0”

One post, six million views, 75,000 likes, and thousands of shares and retweets — who is the reporter who loves Messi and supports Olympiacos?

Newsroom April 30 03:40

Trish Christakis, a Greek-American CBS journalist, went viral during the last Miami Heat game of the season — with many calling her the “Greek Freak 2.0.”

Year 3! What a season for the Miami Heat, thankful 🙏🏻❤️🏀

Her name isn’t new to the public. Christakis has been known for years for her work in Miami, and her reputation has even reached Greece, which she frequently visits. In the past hours, however, she has gone viral in the NBA thanks to one striking photo.

Specifically, a post she made on X (formerly Twitter) about the Miami teams drew millions of views and thousands of comments.

Trish Christakis was at the Kaseya Center when the Miami Heat faced the Cleveland Cavaliers — a game that marked the end of their playoff run this season. She shared what seemed like a simple photo afterward, which sparked massive online attention.

“Year 3! What a season for the Miami Heat! We are grateful. Thank you, Aaron Visions, for capturing this shot during my last live broadcast of the season,” wrote Christakis.

That very photo, which she was so happy about, garnered over 6 million views, thousands of comments and retweets, over 75,000 likes, and 18,000 saves.

“I’m officially a Miami Heat fan even if they’re losing by 50,” someone commented.
Another wrote: “She’s the Greek Freak 2.0.”

Who Is Trish Christakis?

Trish Christakis, the Greek-American reporter for CBS, has captured attention in Greece and beyond through her social media presence.

The 32-year-old first stood out when she was courtside during the 2023 Miami Heat vs. Los Angeles Lakers game.

She’s been covering the Miami Heat (NBA), the Miami Dolphins (NFL), and Inter Miami (MLS) for several years. She also reports on major events like NCAA March Madness, the Stanley Cup, and has covered the NBA Finals.

Raised in Chicago, Christakis graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a degree in journalism.

Her Greek roots have helped her stand out, especially with her strong football knowledge and passion for the game. She loves playing soccer in her free time and jokingly says she’s a “wannabe striker for the US National Team.”

She was thrilled when she met Lionel Messi in Miami, calling him the greatest footballer of all time.
