Explosion in Thessaloniki: the 36-year-old tenant of the apartment where the 38-year-old woman started her journey was arrested

About a kilo of explosives and detonators were found in the house

Newsroom May 7 09:29

The arrest of 36-year-old Konstantinos Michalitsanos, the person who allegedly rented the apartment from which the 38-year-old woman from Georgia and reached the point where she died when the explosive device she placed in a bank exploded, authorities proceeded to Thessaloniki.

According to information in the apartment, during the initial assessment of the TEM, high explosives, eight common detonators, as well as a small amount of TD were found. In total, authorities estimate it was one kilogram of explosives.

The apartment is located in Ladadika and was reportedly rented last Wednesday.

The explosion and the woman’s past

It is recalled that 38-year-old Snizana Paraskevaidou died after an explosion outside a closed parking lot in an apartment building, on the ground floor of which a bank is located, shortly after 5 a.m. on Saturday (3/05) in the center of Thessaloniki.

The woman was not the one who made the explosive device. Instead, she was assigned to pick up the bomb from a spot in Ladadika and transport it to Agios Dimitriou Street, where it exploded in her hands.

However, she was known to the police authorities, as she had been employed in the past for cases of common criminal law, while the possibility of her involvement in organized crime activities is being seriously considered. She had also been employed by the authorities for robberies, for legislation on persons for hire and reward, drugs usury and weapons law offences.

Among other things, she had been arrested in 2021 along with a man and charged with carrying illegal weapons (she had a Kalashnikov in her backpack), drugs and aiding and abetting a criminal.

It should be noted that the National Police believe that the explosion was not related to terrorism but they are looking for a connection to a known robber where he is imprisoned.
