Discover wild beauty of Grecian seas’ lighthouses

Apart from their practical value, the Greek lighthouses are also a fascinating attraction for tourists

Newsroom January 24 03:44

Symbols of hope and safety, the lighthouses are a significant part of the Hellenic naval history, ever since man sailed to and from the mainland and the islands of the east Mediterranean.

Their solitary figures are usually found on steep or inaccessible places, such as capes and rocky islets, providing ships with valuable assistance in navigation.

Apart from their practical value, lighthouses in modern-day Greece are also a fascinating attraction for travelers, as they have the uncanny ability to transform a common sea landscape into something mystical.

Most of the people who visit them want to experience the peace and quiet that characterized the life of lighthouse keepers, before the advent of electrification, and automatic lamp changers began to make them obsolete.

See below some of the most beautiful lighthouses that are considered monuments of the country’s naval history.
