Mother of the deceased fetus located in Thessaloniki – She claims she had a miscarriage without realizing it

The prosecutor was informed about the case, and the 30-year-old woman was ordered to be transported to the hospital for gynecological examination

The mother of the fetus found dead behind a kiosk in Oreokastro, Thessaloniki, has been identified. The 30-year-old woman told police that she did not realize she had miscarried.

Police traced the woman using information and footage from security cameras in the area. According to reports, the woman explained to officers that she was attending a wedding celebration nearby when she felt unwell and experienced bleeding, prompting her to leave the venue.

She claims that she then went to the back of the kiosk, where she noticed heavy bleeding but did not realize she had miscarried, as the lighting was dim.

At the hospital, the 30-year-old was informed about the case, and the prosecutor ordered her to be transferred there for a gynecological examination, advised by a forensic doctor, to verify whether her claims are true.

The spot where the fetus was discovered in Thessaloniki

According to the kiosk owner, “This morning, when we came to open the shop, we found a dead fetus in the kiosk area. It was very small, about 12-13 centimeters, and it looked like a miscarriage. It had the placenta and umbilical cord. Because the weather was dark and rainy, our initial thought was that it might be a kitten. Later, from its shape, limbs, and size, we realized it was a fetus.”

She added that the fetus appeared to be in the third or fourth month of pregnancy and that they immediately notified authorities. “The woman must have been in pain. She probably found comfort at the back, as it is isolated, and miscarried there. It could have been anyone, even a traveler, since many people pass through this area daily, which is a key point. At night, there are no open businesses here,” she noted.
