A total of 20 people have been arrested as part of a large-scale operation by the Hellenic Police (ELAS) that began early this morning to dismantle a human trafficking network.

According to reports, the majority of those arrested are of Syrian and Egyptian nationality.

As shown in the video released by ELAS, at least three raids were carried out in various apartments, where police discovered bags full of forged passports, drawers filled with stamps, and envelopes containing cash.

The operation involved members of the Athens Subdirectorate for Crime Suppression and Investigation, who also managed to arrest the ring leader, who had set up a large-scale forgery lab inside an apartment located in a social housing area of Peristeri.

Sources indicate that the network is believed to be involved in more than 500 cases of illegal migrant trafficking, having developed four document forgery workshops, with illegal profits estimated at over €4 million.
