From June 15, with the completion of the school year, construction crews will enter 426 schools across the country, located in 245 municipalities across the country. In this way, the “Marietta Giannakou”, program for upgrade projects in hundreds of public schools, at all levels, enters the implementation phase.

Projects at most schools are expected to be completed by early September, before the next consecration, while in some cases completion is expected by the end of November.

The plan was reportedly finalized during a meeting held yesterday, Friday, at the Mexico Mansion under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the participation of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas, the Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki and the Minister of State Akis Skertzos. The works will be undertaken by Building Infrastructures SA, the construction company of the Greek state.

“It is a commitment announced at the DETH and it is becoming a reality. An investment in public education, so that students and teachers can be in an environment that is more conducive to learning and love of sport, with equal access and without exclusion,” a government source said.

The “Marietta Giannakou” program includes the radical renovation or construction of sanitary facilities that are suitable for students or teachers with disabilities, the renovation or construction of basketball and volleyball courts in schools, as well as a playground in kindergartens, work to paint both indoor and outdoor areas, and the creation of a ramp for disabled people.

Where needed, funding will also be provided for roofing – roof repair and the installation of a lift or lift for the disabled.
