Mitsotakis: AI is radically transforming social relations – Highlighted concerns over children’s mental health in the Digital Age – See video (updated)

Highlighting the societal impact of AI, Mitsotakis warned that in the digital world, children are often treated as adults, calling for greater protection of their mental health in an algorithm-driven age

Newsroom June 20 12:00

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis concluded a discussion with Baroness Beeban Kidron, member of the UK House of Lords, as part of the international conference “The Lyceum Project 2025 – Children in the Age of AI.“ The meeting focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on children and the urgent need to establish regulatory frameworks to protect them in the digital space.

Mitsotakis emphasized that artificial intelligence signals the dawn of a new era, noting, “Humanity no longer holds a monopoly on intelligence,” and stressing that AI represents “not merely a technological advance, but a radical transformation of social relations.”

At the heart of his remarks was the issue of digital behavior toward children: “In the digital world, we don’t treat children as children—we treat them as adults,” he stated. “It is widely acknowledged that something is happening to their mental health. Parents must be part of the equation. Companies are shaping an environment that keeps children trapped in front of screens.”
