Thousands of Norwegians accidentally “won” huge amounts of money in the Eurojackpot

Instead of dividing the amounts by 100, they multiplied them by 100, so many people started dreaming...

Newsroom June 30 08:00

A small mistake by state gambling operator Norsk Tipping “gifted” thousands of Norwegians huge sums in the Eurojackpot draw.

Norsk Tipping admitted that “several thousand customers were informed of -misleadingly- high prizes.”

Unsurprisingly, many began celebrating and making plans for homes, holidays, and cars before discovering the mistake.
The incident prompted the resignation of the company’s CEO, a position she has held for nearly two years.

“As a manager, it was my responsibility to handle the mistakes that occurred,” she said in a statement, adding that “it is incredibly sad that I am leaving Norsk Tipping. I am confident that all the improvement processes we have started are in good hands.”

As the Guardian points out, the operator accepts prize money from Germany in euros, which is then converted into Norwegian kroner.

“During this conversion, an error occurred in the code entered into our game engine,” the company said in a statement, clarifying that “the amount has been multiplied by 100 instead of being divided by 100.”

The inflated amounts appeared on the company’s website and mobile app on Friday, but were later removed. Norsk Tipping confirmed that no incorrect payments were made.
