Concern for Greek armed guard of Eternity C: believed abducted by Houthis – Shocking video of the ship attack

The total number of missing persons has reached 15 - The Greek man was the last to abandon ship with the captain, while his brother is participating in the rescue operation

Newsroom July 9 10:13

The number of missing has risen to 15 – The Greek guard was the last to abandon ship along with the captain, while his brother is involved in the rescue operation – See the Houthis’ propaganda video from the attack and the sinking.

Developments surrounding the Eternity C cargo ship, which was sailing under the Liberian flag and sank in the Red Sea after a Houthi rebel attack, are at a critical stage.

According to distressing reports, the Greek armed security guard aboard the vessel is believed to be held captive by the Houthis, along with the Filipino captain and possibly other crew members, as authorities continue the search for 15 missing individuals.

The Houthis officially claimed responsibility for the attack, calling it “an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

Final to Abandon Ship

According to exclusive information from protothema.gr, the Greek guard was the last to leave the vessel alongside the captain, after the Eternity C had already started to sink. This account comes from the testimonies of the six crew members who were rescued by a European mission operating in the region.

Most shocking of all is that the Greek guard’s brother is part of the British security company involved in the search and rescue effort. Risking his own life, he is trying to locate his brother and the other missing crew members.

Hostages and Houthis’ Claims

According to a statement from the Houthis’ military spokesperson, their “naval forces” responded to the incident to rescue and provide medical care to certain sailors, who were transferred to a “safe location.” It remains unconfirmed who exactly is being held, and the precise number of hostages is still unknown.

The attack occurred on Monday, roughly 50 nautical miles off the port of Hodeidah, Yemen, when the Eternity C was hit by gunfire, seaborne drones, and armed assailants on speedboats. Of the 25 people aboard, four were killed, six rescued, and 15 remain missing.

Second Attack on Greek Interests in 24 Hours

This marks the second attack within 24 hours by the Houthis on a ship with Greek interests, following a previous incident involving the Magic Seas.

Sources report that negotiations are already underway with the Houthis, aiming for the safe release of the hostages.

The Eternity C was first attacked on Monday afternoon with maritime drones and rockets launched from Houthi speedboats. It was attacked again Tuesday night, forcing the crew to abandon ship by jumping into the sea, as the vessel’s lifeboats had been destroyed during the initial assault.
