Fire near homes in Aliveri: Emergency alert issued for evacuation of two settlements, flames entered yards

A fire broke out on Sunday afternoon (July 13) in the Kampos area of Aliveri, Evia. Firefighting forces have been reinforced, and now 48 firefighters with 16 vehicles, one ground team, six aircraft, and three helicopters are operating on the scene.

The fire is burning dry grass and crops, with flames reaching close to homes. In fact, shortly after 16:30, three emergency alerts via the 112 system were sent to residents in the area.

The first was a warning, urging residents to stay alert and follow the authorities’ instructions. The second called for the evacuation of people in the Pontikos area. Specifically, the message said:
“Forest fire in the Aliveri area of the Evia Regional Unit. If you are in the Pontikos area, evacuate towards Karavos. Follow the instructions of the authorities.”

A third alert was sent shortly before 17:30, calling for evacuation of the Kampos area towards Chalkida.

Speaking to ERT at 17:40, the Deputy Governor of Evia, Giorgos Kelaïditis, stated that the fire had “licked” house yards but now appeared to be in a better condition and was no longer threatening homes, thanks to the swift response of firefighters and aerial support.
