Israeli raid on Damascus: We hit the headquarters of the General Staff, say the IDF

Israeli attacks also on the Druze stronghold city of Suayda, which has already been invaded by the Syrian army

Newsroom July 16 02:24

Surprise media reported that there was an Israeli airstrike in Damascus. According to the reports, a powerful explosion was heard in the capital after a drone flew over the area. There were no immediate reports of injuries, and the strike is believed to have been mainly a warning.

The Israeli military claimed responsibility, noting that it struck the Syrian army’s General Staff headquarters: “The Israel Defense Forces recently attacked the entrance gate of the Syrian regime’s General Staff headquarters in the Damascus area of Syria.”

With this attack, Israel is seeking to send a message to the Syrian regime’s army, which is operating against the Druze in southern Syria.

In addition, the IDF also advised of new attacks in Suwaida, in southern Syria: “The Israel Defense Forces continue to monitor developments and activities against Druze civilians in southern Syria and, by the instructions of the civilian echelon, are attacking the area and are prepared for various scenarios.”

Syrian forces had deployed in the Suayda region, claiming their aim was to suppress internal conflicts. However, the Israeli side reportedly considers their presence a threat to the Druze community, which it says it is determined to protect.
