Kremlin on Trump’s new deadline for ceasefire in Ukraine: We took note of his statement

The US president yesterday set a new 10-12 day deadline for Russia to make progress towards ending the war in Ukraine or face consequences

Newsroom July 29 05:38

The Kremlin said today that it has “taken note” of a statement made yesterday by US President Donald Trump, who said will shorten the deadline he gave Moscow to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine or face sanctions.

Trump yesterday set a new deadline of10-12 days for Russia to make progress toward ending the war in Ukraine or face consequences, underscoring his frustration with President Vladimir Putin over the more than three-and-a-half-year-long war.

The Kremlin, asked about Trump’s remarks yesterday during a briefing with reporters, issued a brief statement.

“We took note of President Trump’s statement yesterday. The special military operation is continuing,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, using the term Moscow has adopted for its war in Ukraine.

“We remain committed to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and to safeguard our interests in the course of this settlement.”

Trump threatened on July 14 to impose new sanctions on Russia and buyers of its exported goods within 50 days, a deadline that expired in early September. But yesterday during his visit to Britain, he announced he would shorten that deadline, saying: “There is no reason to wait…We just don’t see any progress being made.”

Trump, who has held five phone conversations with the Kremlin leader since returning to the White House in January, also said he was “not that interested in talking anymore.”
