Newsroom August 1 05:58

Recep Tayyip Erdogan received in Istanbul on Friday (1/8) the Prime Minister of Italy, Georgia Meloni and Tripoli Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeiba for a trilateral cooperation meeting.

According to Turkish media, the talks focused on the exploitation of energy resources in the Mediterranean Sea, the management of irregular migration flows, and the political process to return stability to Libya.

According to a statement by the Libyan Government of National Unity, the summit is part of the ongoing strategic coordination between Libya, Turkey, and Italy to promote common positions that serve the interests of the peoples of the region.

The summit was held against the backdrop of increasing pressure from migratory flows. Libya remains the main departure point for migrants, with some 21,000 arrivals in Italy this year alone – an 80% increase compared to 2024, according to Il Sole 24 Ore.
