Fire now in Lavrio – 112 evacuation alert, Fire Department forces continuously reinforced

174 firefighters mobilized with 49 vehicles, 2 aircraft, and 5 helicopters – Traffic restrictions in the area

A fire broke out shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday (27/8) in Paliokamariza, Lavrio. Shortly after 2:00 p.m., a 112 emergency alert was sent for the evacuation of Thorikos. “If you are in the area of Thorikos, Lavrio, move away toward Lavrio,” the message read.

To extinguish the fire, firefighting forces were reinforced and now consist of 174 firefighters with 49 vehicles, 7 ground teams of the 1st EMODE unit, 2 aircraft, and 5 helicopters. Water tankers from local municipalities are also assisting in the effort.

Due to the fire, traffic has been halted on Lavriou Avenue, at its junction with an unnamed road near the “Shell” gas station, in the direction toward Athens, as well as from the Lavrio roundabout, also in the direction toward Athens.

According to reports, the fire is burning low vegetation and is close to residential areas.
