Conor McGregor says he will run for President of Ireland: “Time for real change”

If you want to see my name on the ballot for president, please contact your local county councillors today and ask them to nominate me, he says in the video he posted on Instagram

Newsroom September 4 05:55

Conor McGregor has announced his intention to run for the presidency of Ireland. He is asking supporters to contact local councillors and push for his nomination.

McGregor Calls for Support

The former MMA champion posted a video filmed outside government buildings in Dublin. In the clip, McGregor urged citizens to back him:

“Citizens of Ireland, it is time for real change! As president, I will not sign any bill until the people see it first. If you want my name on the ballot, please contact your county councillors today and ask them to nominate me.”

Criticism of the Government

McGregor attacked the government over homelessness and immigration.
“Homelessness has reached record levels. This shows the government’s refusal to respect our declaration that all Irish children must be cared for. Instead, children are being abandoned,” he said.

He also linked social problems to migration:
“A surge of mass immigration has hit an already broken system. Tourism has dropped, and our streets have become more dangerous.”

McGregor’s Self-Portrayal

He described himself as a “master of martial arts” and a “man seeking solutions.” He claimed councillors are closer to the people than members of parliament:
“Councillors are the backbone of our communities. They work harder and deliver more than parliament, which continues to fail this country.”

What He Needs to Run

To appear on the ballot, McGregor must win support from either four local authorities or 20 members of parliament. Last week, he claimed:
“I have councillors, TDs, senators. I even have the most reputable party. Now I need to choose my party affiliation.”

So far, his name does not appear on any official candidate lists.
