Germany on the throne of Europe, 88-83 over Turkey in a thrilling final

Germany are European champions for the second time in their history, with an outstanding Bonga (20 points) and a decisive Schröder in the final minutes — Turkey missed all their crucial shots at the end, with Şengün as their top scorer with 28

EuroBasket 2025 is reaching its conclusion, with Riga preparing to host the grand final of the tournament where Turkey and Germany will “fight” for the trophy.

Dennis Schröder said ahead of the clash: “We are excited. It’s a great opportunity to put Germany back on the map in a historic summer for us. We can’t wait to finish the job tomorrow.”

On the other hand, Cedi Osman stated: “Germany is the world champion, with a great roster including players like Schröder, Wagner, Theis, and Obst. But we have shown that we can face strong teams, such as Serbia, Greece, and Latvia. We’ll give our very best.”

Germany reached the final through an unexpectedly favorable path, as the major favorites on its side of the bracket (Serbia, France) were eliminated by others. Nevertheless, it confirmed its superiority, knocking out Portugal, Slovenia, and Finland.

Turkey is 40 minutes away from making history. In 90 years, it has stood on the podium only once—back in 2001 on home soil—but has never won the title.

This 24-year “drought” has ended, and now Ergin Ataman’s team of “revenge,” led by Alperen Şengün, wants to etch its name into Turkish basketball legend. The team remains undefeated, having beaten Serbia and Greece on its road to the final.
