Trump and Starmer praise the unique US-UK bond – “Security is the cornerstone of our relationship”

British Prime Minister Kir Starmers and his guest, US President Donald Trump, praised the two countries' common ground on major issues and substantial cooperation in areas such as security at a joint press conference

British Prime Minister Kir Starmer and his guest, US President Donald Trump, praised the two countries’ common ground on major issues and substantial cooperation in areas such as security at a joint press conference.

The press conference came after a half-hour private meeting at Chequers, the British prime minister’s country residence.

Starmer said that “we have renewed our special relationship for a new era” and stressed that security is “the cornerstone of our special relationship.”

He even extolled the two countries’ defense relationship, which is “the deepest and most advanced in the world.” “Our soldiers train together and fight together. Our industries build everything from aircraft to submarines together.”

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the declaration of US independence from British rule, which will be in 2026, Starmer said the two countries have come a “long way” since then.

On Ukraine, he said the two countries are “working together to end the killings,” adding that Vladimir Putin’s recent attacks “are not the actions of someone who wants peace.” “We discussed how we can strengthen our defense, provide more support for Ukraine, and decisively increase pressure on Putin to agree to a lasting peace deal,” he added.

For his part, Donald Trump thanked Starmer for his “wonderful hospitality”.

“As I said last night, the bond between our countries is unique in the world,” he said, noting that “the United States and the United Kingdom have done more good on this planet than any two countries in the history of mankind.”

On the US-UK trade deal, Trump said Starrer is a tough negotiator and joked that “it was a better deal for you than for us.”

On international issues, Trump said once again that he has ended “seven wars” since returning to the White House. He even said (once again) that the one he thought would be the easiest to resolve, because of his relationship with Vladimir Putin, turned out to be the most difficult.

“He really disappointed me. We’ll see how the situation plays out,” Trump said of Vladimir Putin.

Of Charlie Kirk, he said he was “assassinated for expressing his opinion.” He called him a “wonderful young man with an incredible future” and revealed that she had told him, “Charlie, I think you have a good chance of being president someday.”
