Mystery with the Mercedes that was speeding at 291 km/h on Syngrou Avenue in April – A police officer from a central Athens precinct “in the frame”

The vehicle’s owner claimed that at the time he had given the car to the specific police officer – It has not been clarified whether he was the driver

Newsroom September 19 07:57

A surprising development occurred yesterday in the case of the unknown driver of the Mercedes that was recorded speeding at 291 km/h on Syngrou Avenue last April. Traffic police in Kallithea, who are handling the case, are trying to determine what the truth actually is.

It all started ten days ago when Kallithea traffic police submitted the case file to the Prosecutor, having only managed to identify the car’s owner but not the driver.

The Prosecutor requested further investigation in order to identify the driver of the supercar. The Kallithea traffic police summoned the owner for a new statement, and he indicated the person to whom he had lent the car.

That person is a police officer serving at a precinct in central Athens. According to the owner, he was the one who had the Mercedes AMG GT S on April 4. However, it has not been clarified whether he was also the person driving when the Attica Region’s radar captured the car moving at nearly 300 km/h.

The police officer is expected to be called to testify on whether he was the driver of the Mercedes or if he had lent it to someone else.

The German supercar belongs to a well-known businessman in the tourism sector. Initially, Kallithea traffic police had also focused their investigation on another former police officer, who has recently been remanded in custody in connection with a drug trafficking case.
