Hadjivassiliou: Historic moments in the Middle East, Greece present in the discussions

Mr.Hadjivassiliou noted that "this is a historic step, which must be credited to US President Trump, who took the initiative"

Newsroom October 13 05:54

“Greece is a pole of stability in the wider region. The moments we are living in the Middle East with the implementation of the ceasefire agreement are historic,” said Tasos Hadjivassiliou, MP for Serres and Secretary of International Relations and EU of the New Democracy, speaking to Ertnews on Monday.

Hajivassiliou noted that “this is a historic step, which must be credited to US President Trump, who took the initiative.” As he noted, “if this agreement comes to fruition, it can pave the way for the design of a new Middle East, with stability and peace – the great demand for the entire region.”

Referring to Greece’s stance, the Serres MP stressed that our country “actively supports this initiative”, noting the importance of the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, together with Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, at the Sharm El Sheikh Conference. As he said, “Greece is participating in the discussion on the new security architecture in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, which proves its seriousness and its role as a reliable and honest mediator.”

“Our country has historically maintained close ties with the Arab world and a strategic alliance with Israel. This is precisely what makes it a force for balance and stability, capable of contributing to a just peace,” Hajivassiliou added, stressing that “Greece is ready to offer its services to ensure that the agreement delivers the desired results.”

Continuing, Tasos Hadjivassiliou stressed that “despite the questions and difficulties, today is a historic day for the entire planet” and that “the presence of Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Egypt Conference is the best answer to those who talk about the alleged marginalization of Greece and refutes all the professional patriots and patriots of the lentil who sword against the government”. “The Mitsotakis government proves in practice that Greece remains a force for peace, credibility and stability in the Middle East,” he said.

Regarding the conference in Egypt, Hajivassiliou noted that “this is a crucial, first meeting, with heterogeneous participants, which can determine developments.” As he said, “the conditions for the next day are clear: first, there must be a release of the hostages; second, order must be restored in the Gaza Strip; third, a transitional authority must be prepared that will lead to free elections; and fourth, the Abraham Accords, which were the foundation of understanding between Israel and the Arab world, must be revived.”

In conclusion, the Serres MP stressed that “the revival of the Abraham Accords could create an open channel of communication between Israel and Saudi Arabia, the strongest power in the Arab world,” adding that “such a development would provide glimmers of hope for peace and stability.”
