Twist in the death of Mango founder who fell 150 meters – Son under investigation for homicide

The fatal fall of Isak Andic, founder of fashion giant Mango, during a hiking trip last December was initially ruled an accident — but Spanish authorities are now investigating it as a possible homicide, with his son, Jonathan Andic, emerging as a suspect

According to reports in the Spanish press, Catalan police confirmed that the investigation into the death — previously treated as accidental — remains open.

Back in December 2024, the 71-year-old businessman was reported to have fallen 150 meters to his death while hiking with family members in Catalonia.

However, according to El País, citing “a number of well-informed sources,” police now suspect foul play and are focusing on Jonathan Andic’s role.

Jonathan was the only person present at the time of the fall, and his account of events reportedly failed to convince investigators, instead fueling suspicion.

Sources told El País that his testimony contained contradictions, vague details, and descriptions inconsistent with forensic findings by Catalan authorities.

A judge has now formally charged Jonathan Andic, according to ABC, while police are examining the contents of his mobile phone, La Vanguardia reported.

Adding to the suspicion are statements from Estefanía Knuth, a professional golfer and partner of the late Isak Andic, who said that “relations between father and son were bad.”

Family Statement

The Andic family issued a statement through a representative, saying they “believe in the swift conclusion of the investigation and in the full vindication of Jonathan Andic’s innocence.”

Who Was Isak Andic

Born in 1953 in Istanbul to a Sephardic Jewish family, Isak Andic moved to Barcelona at age 14 with his parents. From a young age, he displayed a strong entrepreneurial spirit, selling clothes and fabrics at local markets.

In 1984, together with his brother Nahman, he co-founded Mango, which went on to become one of the world’s leading fashion retailers, with 2,800 stores worldwide.

Known for his methodical and discreet personality, Andic avoided the spotlight despite his business success. He was instrumental in Mango’s global expansion, turning it into one of the most recognizable brands in international fashion.

Outside the fashion industry, Andic invested in real estate and banking, serving on the board of Banco Sabadell.

His death in December 2024 shocked the business community. The President of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, expressed deep sorrow, describing Andic as a “dedicated entrepreneur” who “helped make Catalonia great and known throughout the world.”
