Toxicology tests will determine what caused the death of the 16-year-old girl found dead outside a club in Gazi – Georgiadis: The hospital notified the police

Police sources claim that valuable time was lost in the investigation, as the Hellenic Police (ELAS) was informed by the girl’s father

Newsroom October 23 08:43

The police officers investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 16-year-old Zoi-Anna, who collapsed outside a club in Gazi early Sunday morning, are awaiting the results of the toxicological tests. At the same time, authorities are examining whether there was a delay in notifying ELAS about the teenager’s tragic death.

For his part, Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis stated on Thursday morning that “when resuscitation efforts ended, the hospital contacted the police,” adding that the National Emergency Aid Center (EKAV) bears no responsibility because “when they picked up the 16-year-old, the child was not technically dead yet.”

Police sources said yesterday that ELAS was informed the next morning by the girl’s father, who went to the Omonia police station to report his daughter’s death, adding that there had been no prior communication from either Evangelismos Hospital or EKAV.

Georgiadis: The hospital did communicate with the police

“The girl was transported immediately by EKAV. From the time of the call to arrival, it took seven minutes to reach Gazi. She was received practically dead, pulseless, with dilated pupils. They took her to Evangelismos following all protocol procedures — resuscitation efforts, intubation, administration of medication — the doctors did everything humanly possible to keep her alive. The hospital did contact the police; EKAV bears no responsibility,” said Adonis Georgiadis on Thursday morning on Action 24.

“Police were indeed informed. As for how the incident was subsequently handled or assessed, I don’t know. When the doctors confirmed the death, they sent the body for toxicological testing to the coroner and at the same time notified the parents,” the Minister of Health added.

“When EKAV received her, the child was technically still alive. What caused the death will be shown by the toxicological results; once they are available, I will inform you about what the girl had taken,” Georgiadis continued, adding that “when resuscitation efforts ended, the hospital contacted the police, and the body was sent for forensic examination, as is standard in cases of suspicious death.”
