Newsroom November 3 08:48

The family of a 63-year-old man from Heraklion, Crete, made the brave and selfless decision to donate his organs after his passing.

The man had been receiving treatment at Venizelios Hospital, and following his death, his family chose to donate his corneas, offering the gift of vision and a new chance at life to others in need.

According to a statement from Venizelios Hospital, the patient had been treated in the ICU, and “the donation was made possible thanks to the generous decision of the family of the deceased, giving our fellow human beings who were waiting for a transplant the opportunity for a better quality of life.”

The transplant procedure was carried out in close cooperation between the medical and nursing staff of the ICU at Venizelio Hospital and the specialized transplant team of the Ophthalmology Clinic at PAGNI.
