Tense teleconference between ND members and ELTA management: Criticism directed towards the CEO

According to protothema.gr, the teleconference involves the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, who clarified that he has no real competence for the operation of the ELTA

Newsroom November 3 08:29

ELTA CEO Gregory Sklikas is facing a challenging afternoon, as he participates in a teleconference with ND MPs at 18:30, ahead of tomorrow’s parliamentary committee meeting on the company’s restructuring plan.

The mood is evident, with approximately 80 ND MPs taking part in the teleconference—both from the region and various constituencies—indicating that the company’s retreat has not quelled the opposition.

According to protothema.gr, the teleconference also includes Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, who clarified that he holds no direct authority over ELTA’s operations. Similarly, Ypertifonds Managing Director Yannis Papachristou emphasized that Ypertifonds supports ELTA but does not exercise control. Both, in effect, directed responsibility toward Mr. Sklikas.

Reports indicate that the ELTA CEO is facing direct and, at times, severe criticism from ND MPs. MP for Serres and former minister Fotini Arabatzi reportedly expressed frustration, stating, “I cannot tolerate technocratic approaches while we bear the political costs. You failed to show the basic sensitivity to inform us.”

In a similar tone, former minister and MP for Kavala, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, remarked, “We have been left in the dark. I cannot apologize for what you have not communicated to me, gentlemen technocrats.” He further questioned how the matter was handled and asked Mr. Sklikas to confirm reports that ELTA’s office rents amount to €180,000 per month.
